R. KELLY-- "Untitled" (Rating 1/5)

(This week's "FAILURE")

If you are looking for "old-school" R. KELLY, go back to listening to earlier albums which included hits like "Home Alone" featuring Keith Murray, "Down Low (Nobody Has to Know)" featuring The Isley Brothers, and "Your Body's Callin'". He will not be returning to his roots...so whoever said he would, they failed. To be quite honest with you, the only thing you're going to get from this man is completely generic, stale-sounding music that is a violation of everything right in the world.

As if his last album ("Double Up") wasn't pathetic enough, R. KELLY stoops to lower levels on his latest effort simply titled... "Untitled". There was a bit of vulnerability and upset last year when this album (originally entitled "12 Play: 4th Quarter" ...wow, how original) ended up being leaked to the Internet. Not to mention, the album was also delayed because of the controversial trial involving R. KELLY and the minor. All that's in the past now...so one would expect him to come back fresher, letting go of his chauvinistic...and degrading...qualities. Yeah...not so much. I remember back in the day when I used to FEEL R. Kelly's music. Songs like "Ghetto Queen" featuring Crucial Conflict and "A Woman's Threat" will remain some of my favorite cuts from R. KELLY...and they also showcased his raw talent.

But what do we have to look forward to? Why is it that EVERY R&B artist out there thinks they have the best sex anyone can offer? (There goes another hint that Trey Songz is trying too hard to "bite" R. KELLY's style!) "Untitled" starts off with the track "Crazy Night" featuring Rock City...it's a very boring and unimpressive track that sounds TOO much like something from the New Boyz. The album continues along reaching various depths of unfathomable depravity on cuts like "Bangin' the Headboard" (really...how many times have we heard THIS in a song?), the uninviting "Text Me" (where he demands his woman to "text him" something "freaky"), and the insulting "Be My #2" (where he blatantly states "...be my #2...but you will NEVER be my #1"). The one thing I liked about the last track I mentioned is the big-band/disco sound it contains....other than that, the song is complete lyrical garbage.

Now...what I am about to say will officially make this review explicit...there's something here that's had me heated for a very long time about "Untitled". Months ago, my Babyboi sent me a clip from this album that literally had me wanting to strangle R. KELLY for his ignorance...and it's the track called "Pregnant". The final version of it now features added vocals from Tyrese (who?), Robin Thicke, and The-Dream. This song (in my opinion) will be one of the most offensive songs about a woman released to date! The chorus simply starts off by him serenading the line "Girl, you make me wanna get you pregnant..." Now, I've finally heard the full six-minute version of this song...and I will say that I LOVED Robin Thicke's and The-Dream's part...but R. KELLY hit rock bottom with other lyrics like "I'm about to handle my business and put this girl in my kitchen..." Don't tell me that I don't understand the greater picture behind the meaning of the song...R. KELLY's preaching about him being a "player" but now he sees this girl and he wants to make her his wife so they can go live in a "big ol' house with a picket fence and a dog". That's great...but to tell a woman right out "I wanna get you pregnant...?" Are you serious R. KELLY? And what's worse is that there will be some sad female (I guarantee) that'll be like "Ooh...that's my SONG!" IF and when it comes on the radio.

Quite frankly...the song (much like the album as a whole) is a piece of shit! And anyone who thinks it's cute has major issues they have to contend with on their own.

Yes...R. KELLY coming off that child pornography trial left him feeling really buck and free to say whatever he wanted. With the exception of songs like "Exit", "Go Low", and "Whole Lotta Kisses" (which sound reminiscent of his earlier music), "Untitled" is as disgusting, vile, and unimagined as the visual of him urinating on a young female...I mean, after all, it was me that dubbed R. KELLY's new sound "Piss Music". I wouldn't recommend this album at all to anyone...I don't think there's really anything worth it about it...and it really did leave a real bad taste in my mouth.

R. KELLY...you're a grown ass man who shouldn't be acting like someone half your age...and learn how to treat a woman for God's sake.
