CLIPSE-- "'Til the Casket Drops" (Rating 5/5)

(This week's "Featured Artist")

Now THIS is real Hip-Hop/Rap...and it's too bad that no one is paying attention to these guys right now. That's what I hate about the music industry...they put so much emphasis on losers like Chris Brown and Gucci Mane instead of REAL artists like CLIPSE who are the only ones this week who received the highest rating I can give...trumping the likes of Timbaland and Snoop Dogg!

CLIPSE finally signed to Columbia Records after having been signed to Jive and several other labels including Elektra and Arista. Their highly anticipated fourth studio album is definitely a departure sonically from their previous efforts. "'Til the Casket Drops" is mainly produced by longtime collaborators The Neptunes with additional tracks from DJ Khalil and Sean C and LV of The Hitmen. This is also an album that doesn't include a guest appearance on every track...yet every artist that's included does a fine job of adding to the melting pot of greatness that is this album. Most notable appearance goes to Keri Hilson on the single "All Eyes On Me" ...definitely a club-banger hands down. The more serious tracks like "There Was a Murder" breathe intense life on the album, whereas "Counseling" featuring Nicole Hurst depicts a bit of comedy as CLIPSE relates their love of women as a psychological disorder. Songs like "Freedom" and "Champion" speak for themselves as they offer a bit of inspiration to those who come from nothing to actually go out and get what they deserve.

Definitely one of the better Rap albums of this year, "'Til the Casket Drops" cannot be ignored. Now if only people can do a finer job of putting CLIPSE on the map, I wouldn't have to make the comment that after four singles this album really won't make it huge. And that's a damn shame! The politics behind album promotion is disconcerting.

Songs that I Truly Enjoyed from the Album:
• Freedom
• Popular Demand (Popeyes) featuring Cam'ron
• Kinda Like a Big Deal featuring Kanye West
• Showin' Out featuring Yo Gotti
• I'm Good featuring Pharrell
• Door Man
• Never Will It Stop featuring Ab Liva
• Champion
• Footsteps featuring Kobe
• Life Change featuring Kenna and Pharrell
