LIFEHOUSE-- "Smoke & Mirrors" (Rating 5/5)

With the exception of Sade, the new year for music officially starts today with the release of FOUR albums that caught me by complete surprise...starting with LIFEHOUSE. I first heard of this Malibu-based Alternative Rock band while watching the very first season of the WB hit series Smallville where the song Everything was used in the pilot AND season finale episodes. The band has enjoyed complete success since their debut album No Name Face was released a decade ago. They've seen their singles hit #1 here in the U.S. (Hanging By a Moment and You and Me) and are ready to release their fifth studio album entitled Smoke & Mirrors.

What immediately caught my attention while reading about this new album was some of the collaborators who infused their talent with lead singer/songwriter Jason Wade. Kevin Rudolf shares writing credits with him on the track Falling In...and Chris Daughtry appears singing back-up on the song Had Enough, of which he also co-wrote with Wade alongside Richard Marx. Smoke & Mirrors really grabbed a hold on me when I reached the songs Here Tomorrow Gone Today and In Your Skin. If you read my reviews on a regular basis, you should know that I enjoy music that have profound lyrics that I can relate to...and these songs are a perfect example. By Your Side is a beautiful track inspired by the faith that can be instilled in you by someone in your life...whether it be your lover or your friend or family member...while the track Nerve Damage is a must-hear song because of its production and symbolism.

Smoke & Mirrors (along with the other three albums I'm reviewing today) received the highest rating I can give to an album. Reasons include high quality of substance...the album isn't filled with nonsense...its powerful lyrics are proof of that alone. I think anyone who isn't a fan of LIFEHOUSE won't find themselves being disappointed. If you're in the mood to hear good Alternative Rock music...check this album out. Keep in mind that Smoke & Mirrors will have a STANDARD and DELUXE VERSION and I do make further mention of that towards the end of this review!
