THIS WEEK's FEATURED ARTIST!

The BABYBOICAMPBELLS REVIEW only reviews albums from artists who are (and have been) relevant...that's why it seems that we go away for many extended periods of time. I will say our choice to review this album was a wise one...without a doubt, it is one of the best albums released so far this year...and who would've thought...then again, CYPRESS HILL, who has been around since 1991, never disappoints no matter what they do.

CYPRESS HILL holds many accomplishments...including having several albums go multiple-platinum ever since their debut Cypress Hill. After six years of being absent from the music scene, the group returns stronger than ever with the infectious new album RISE UP. Now...being in based in Chicago has always been a setback for hearing new music. That's why I must tell my readers in the Midwest that Armada Latina featuring Pitbull and Marc Anthony is NOT the first single from this album...it's actually the fourth! Then again, it may just be the first to actually hit mainstream...but that's okay. The single itself, along with Get 'Em Up, It Ain't Nothin featuring Young De, and Rise Up featuring Tom Morello, have made heavy impact on old and new fans alike. The album features production from Jim Jonsin, Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), and more. I especially love the throwback sound on the majority of RISE UP's tracks, including Armed and Dangerous, one of my favorite tracks from the album. Carry Me Away featuring Mike Shinoda and Take My Pain featuring Everlast also fit the same bill...but it's Get It Anyway that truly speaks to me because of its lyrics about today's state of the world and how it's important to "hustle" to get what you want...despite any downfall we may be experiencing.

CYPRESS HILL will continue to be the only Latin Hip-Hop group that continues to hold on to their reign. I'm definitely impressed with this album and recommend it to anyone who wants to hear what TRUE Hip-Hop should sound like. Chicagoans will get a special treat when the group performs at Lollapalooza on AUGUST 8th. I think everyone should take note of what CYPRESS HILL is doing and just RISE UP from the everyday garbage that takes hold of our lives...!
