Bobby Ray Simmons is set to the take the entire world by storm with his debut album B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. The newcomer has already made quite an impression with his current single Nothin' On You featuring Bruno Mars as it is currently the #1 song in the country! The Atlanta, Georgia native has brought us an album filled with pure eclecticism, spilling with elements of "rap, techno, rock, funk...and even doo-wop." B.o.B. takes hold of the project, alongside T.I., as executive producer to create an entirely different sound in music today. Luke, Jim Jonsin, Polow Da Don, Alex Da Kid, and others also play a part in the finished product of this debut of which people will need to get their hands on.
Listening to this album, I immediately drew similarities between B.o.B. and Kid Cudi...but don't be mistaken. While they might depict the same style of music to some aspect, they are entirely two different artists. Recruiting Lupe Fiasco, Rivers Cuomo (Weezer), and Hayley Williams (Paramore) to appear on guest vocals automatically upped my interest in the album itself. I enjoyed the opening track Don't Let Me Fall and Fame for their futuristic melodies. Bet I featuring T.I. and Playboy Tre brings a little bit of urban sound to the album...but when B.o.B. slows it down on the track Lovelier Than You, it's becomes more evident how talented this individual really is. Not to mention the second part to the second single Airplanes featuring Hayley Williams and Eminem...it just may be one of the hottest collaborations of this year so far.
Yes, B.o.B. has come a long way from his own guest appearances on tracks from Pitbull and others. As a solo artist, I can see him having a fruitful career. I think he's on the right track and is more than deserving of all the success that comes to him. The original version of Airplanes debuted at #12 this week, giving him TWO singles in the Top 20 at the same time! That's impressive for a breakthrough artist. (Please take away the throne from Lady Gaga...PLEASE!!) Even though the album has multiple sounds...it still remains cohesive...and a fresh of breath air, yet again, in Hip-Hop music today...and because of that, I chose to name his this week's FEATURED ARTIST. Take a listen for yourself...it's definitely been worth the wait!
